According to the Fickling Family genealogy, Norman and Elizabeth also had a child, Martha Octavia (1831-1864), who married Rev. Charles J. Jewett in 1848.

In the 1850 census for Marietta, Cobb Co., Georgia, Norman L. Chester is a physican, age 47 from Connecticut with $3,000. His wife Elizabeth L. M. is 39 from South Ca.[Carolina]. Their children are Mary L., 16; Cornelia A., 13; Orlando D., 4 -- all born in Georgia -- and 'Ionett W.' , male, 1, born Connecticut. Augustus Chester [Norman's brother], age 41 from Connecticut, is also living there. {p.200?} Norman Chester is also listed in the 1850 Slave Schedule for Cobb County, George as possessing 3 slaves in the Marietta District.

In the 1860 census for Marietta, N. L. Chester is a physician, age 57 from Connecticut, with $570 & $20,400. His wife E.L. is 49, born South Carolina. The children are M. L. [Mary], 26, f; C. H. [Cornelia] 23, f; O. D. [Orlando] 13, m; and J. W. [Jouett] 11, m, -- all born Georgia. Next door are M.J. Williams [Elizabeth's brother-in-law?], math professor, age 54 from Georgia, with wife M.S., 50, [daughter?] F. J. B?, 18, South Carolina; H.S. Williams, lawyer, 28, Georgia; and [Elizabeth's half-brother?] Geo. S. Davant, 20, Georgia, with $10,000. {Roll 117, p.252}

In the 1870 census for Marietta, Norman L. Chester is 67, physician from Connecticut. Wife Elizabeth is 59 from South Carolina. Daughter Mary S. is 24, a school teacher born in Georgia. [Brother-in-law] Morton (?) J. Williams, 64, Georgia, is also living with them, along with Martha S., 60, Georgia; and Bessie W., 25, a schoolteacher born in South Carolina. Morton is listed as 'insane'. Based on the info in the 1880 census, this is the sister and brother-in-law of Elizabeth. {p.431}

A Elizabeth Chester, widow, age 69, from South Carolina, (parents South Carolina) is living in Marietta, Cobb Co., Georgia in 1880 with her sister Martha Williams, as head of household, a widow age 70 from Georgia (parents South Carolina), and (daughter?) Mary Chester, age 47, music teacher from Georgia (father Connecticut, mother South Carolina). Phoebe Holleman, cook, widow, black, age 60 from Virginia, is also living there. {p. 178b}
