DEATH OF OSCAR CHRISTIAN

WELL KNOWN PIONEER OF ORLAND PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY MONDAY NIGHT

    Oscar Christian died at his home in this city at midnight, Monday, after an acute illness of only one day.  Mr. Christian suffered for several years with pulmonary edema, and it was this that was the cause of his death.  He had been in his customary health, with the exception of an occasional illness, and had been down town as usual on the day preceding his demise.

    Mr. Christian was one of the pioneer residents of Orland.  He was born in Missouri on April 11, 1861, and was thus 63 years 9 months and 29 days of age at the time of his death.  When only a boy of 13 he came with his family to California, settling near Orland, and this place was his home for 50 years.  Here his family was born and raised, and no family was better known or more respected through the community than the Christian family.  Eight children were born to the union, all of whom survive.  They are Mrs. F. Weston of Flournoy; Mrs. H. Seavers of Kirkwood; James of Orland; Mrs. Carl McNealy of Los Angeles; and Granville, Calvin, Metta and Oscar, Jr. all still at the home place at Orland.

    The funeral will be held today from the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Thos, A. Mitchell.  Interment will take place in the Odd Fellows cemetery.   This obituary does not mention that Oscar had two children, Orval and Marguerite, who preceded him in death.   - Researched and transcribed by E.
