- Joshua was wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-5, 1863, he was hospitalized in the hospital on David's Island, New York Harbor, on or about July 17, 1863. He was paroled and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received on September 16, 1863, for exchange. He returned to duty in January-February 1864. On July 30, 1864, he was hospitalized in Richmond, Virginia, with a gunshot wound to the left arm. The place and date of the wound was not reported. Returning to duty in September-October 1864, he was present or accounted for through February 1865.
