About Philip Funk Hess
Served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was a private in the Sixth Company (Springfield Township - under Captain Josiah Bryan). Third Battalion, Pennsylvania Militia, Colonel John Keller, commanding, mustered into service May 6, 1777, numbering 55 men including officers. DAR Ancestor #: A054626
It is not known whether or not they engaged in battle or where they rendezvoused. The supposition is that it was on duty for home defense and to overawe the Tories.
Philip was the husband of Mary Moyer
He was the son of Nicholas Hess and Catherine (Funk) Hess
Philip was a farmer. He served as a private under Capt Josiah Bryan in the 6th Company, 3rd Battalion, PA Militia (Col John Keller, commanding). He mustered into service May 6, 1777. (Ref, Genealogical Record of the Descendants of Nicholas Hess)
