Philip Adams was born 23 December 1779 to John and Susan (Wood) Adams in Halifax County, Virginia.
Philip was first married in 1805 to Fanny Powell, a member of an old and prominent Virginia family. Philip and Fanny had three children, Susan Wood, Thomas Powell and Mary Frances.
He sold the plantation on which he lived in 1807 to his brother Benjamin and moved to another home in Prince Edward County, Virginia.
Philip’s second marriage was in 1817 to Matilda Foster, a cousin of his first wife. Philip and Matilda had one child, John Booker.
In 1839 Philip and at least his youngest son moved to Callaway County, Missouri.
