About Pieter Wouter de Jager

Pieter “Piet” de Jager (1938 – 2003)

Brief overview:

Piet (65), was opening his front gate when he was shot by five men. He died instantly from two shots to the head and one in the chest on Saturday morning about 400m from his home when he went to switch off a water pump. He was a prominent farmer and community leader was allegedly executed for criticising land reform.

De Jager, was the owner of the farm Laatsgevonden, and was shot dead 11:00 about 400 m from his house. Five armed men allegedly ambushed him and fired three shots at him.
De Jager Jr. said yesterday that his badly wounded father tried to stumble home and shouted for his wife, Lenie, to secure herself and two of their grandchildren, who were currently staying with them.
Mrs. De Jager immediately fled through the back door of the house and locked the security gate. The attackers tugged at the gate to try and get it open. She called their neighbor and De Jager Jr., who lives 2 km from his parents, and told them about the attack. They were on the scene within minutes, but the attackers had already fled.
According to De Jager jr. the attack was carried out with military precision. "It could have been planned weeks in advance," he said. His father died of two bullet wounds in the head and one in the chest.
