With his second wife, Catharina Petronella, they moved to Natal in1837 with the de Beer trek. After the annexation of Natal by the British they moved to the Transvaal.

With his second wife, Catharina Petronella and his daughter, also Catharina Petronella, they signed the member list of the Gereformeerde Kerk (205 to 207) on 10 February 1859 when the church was formed in Rustenburg.
