About Pleasant Calloway Ferguson
Pleasant fought in the civil war for the confederate army. He originally registered in Union Co., He was a Pvt Co. 1, 48th Infantry (State Troops). He was taken prisoner at Fort Lookout prison in Maryland. His wife Martha died while he was away in the war. When he returned he married his 2nd wife, Clarentine C. Hough ( his 2nd cousin). It was rumored that his son John Franklin Ferguson had a crush on Pleasant's much younger wife. She was actually younger than John Franklin was.
Pleasant was said to be a man of very strong or mean character. It has been told through family history that if his 2nd wife Clarentine did not have his lunch ready at exactly noon, then he would go out into the hog pin and get his boots full of mud (and other things), then he would jump up and down on the bed, which was covered with a handmade white quilt. He also denied his daughter Emily and her husband John, peaches from his orchard. He told them he would rather feed the peaches to the hogs.
Pleasant originally owned 1300 acres in Mecklenburg, Union and Cabarrus counties.
