MEMORIAL PHOTOS 2 FLOWERS 1 Daughter of John & Hannah Berry.

Polly was her first name, given to her in honor of her grandmother Polly Black Devore, her mother's mother.

Mary is buried here and husband elsewhere as they div Apr 1878 2 yrs after John just up and left her taking at lest 4 kids with him and then married to the widow Margaret White [Clanton] Polly and John had 10 kids then he had 3 sons w/Margaret plus she had 3 kids from Clanton [James, Emma, May]. These two also raised 2 of John Compton's grand kids so had a house full she did.

These 3 boys John Bate Berry (1813 - 1891)** Andrew Jackson Berry (1816 - 1899)** Joseph Berry (1818 - 1842)**

belong to the dad John Berry and his lst wife Betsy Smeathers. So they are half brothers to Polly then.

George Washington Berry is the 12th and the last child of John and Hannah born abt 1857 as he was 9yrs old when his father died. He stayed a while with his mother to help her on the grist mill until 1888 when he told his mother good bye and they would not see nor hear from him again. This was wittnessed by a niece to him, Pearl Berry Gaines, Jack Berry's daughter and she remembered him riding off on a beautiful bay horse. 1898 Hannah was interviewed by AJ Sowell and she mentioned to him that then George was 40yo so he was still living obviously. 1924 when Will Mann bought the grist farm, he mentioned seeing a tombstone for George there now defaced by time.

Before It is Too Late by Mary Compton May 26, 1901

If you've a gray-haired mother in the old home far away, Sit down and write the letters you put off day by day. Don't wait until her tired steps reach Heaven's pearly gate s, But show her that you think of her before it is too late. If you've a tender message or loving words to say, Don't wait till you forget it, but whisper it today. Who knows what bitter memories may haunt you if your wait! So make your loved one happy, before it is too late.

We live but in the present; the future is unknown. Tomorriw is a mystery; today is all our own. The chance that fortune lends to us may vanish while we wai t, So spend your life's rich treasure, before it is too late. The tender words unspoken, the letters never sent, The long-forgotten messages, the wealth of love unspent, For these some hearts are breaking, for these some loved one waits

So show them that you care for them, before it is to late.
