The son of Peter & Sophia (Curran), in 1860 he was a farm laborer living in Chanceford Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 9" tall and had dark hair and gray eyes. He married Mary Ann Gohn ca. 1862 and fathered William (b. 01/12/63), Anna Mary (b. 08/30/66 - married a Lloyd), Elizabeth R. (b. 11/21/72), Emma Florence (b. 09/04/77 or 78 - married a Boyd), and Dollie (b. @1882).
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg, oddly understating his age by four years, August 20, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 1 as a private with Co. G, 205th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 2, 1865.
He died in Hopewell Township, York County, from "Bright's disease" with "arteriosclerosis" a contributing factor.
