John Bean is the son of Captain William Bean and Lydia (Russell) Bean.His life and activities, and moves, were closely associated with hisson John Hogan Bean. John was married twice, though we do not have the name of his first wife.
Children of John and his first wife are:
- William Bean, born circa 1775, married Nancy Blevins;
- John Hogan Bean, born circa 1788, in Washington County, Tennessee, married Jean McFarland;
- Stephen Bean, was in Davidson County, Tennessee in 1805; John married secondly Rachel Griffith. John and Rachel were the parents of at least one son:
- Jesse Bean, born December 29, 1794, in Washington County, Tennessee, died March 4, 1845, in Selma Dallas county, Alabama, married CatherineBird In 1799, the Grainger County, Tennessee tax lists indicate that John owned 1000 acres. His son, John H. Bean registered to vote for the first time. In the 1805, Grainger County tax lists John is taxed for 500 acres, and [John] Hogan Bean has 2,000 acres. In 1807, Grainger County tax lists John has 500 acres and John Hogan Bean 200 acres. Beginning in 1805 and continuing through 1806, 1807 and 1809, both John Bean and his son, John Hogan Bean, disposed of all of their land in Grainger County,TN, the final sale on January 10, 1809. In 1812, John Bean is on the Franklin County, Tennessee tax list and voter registration list. In the Winchester, Tennessee Chronicle, December 12, 1815, a news item, "John Bean was paid $21.74 for repairing gun locks and gun barrels," showing that he was living in Franklin County, Tennessee at the time. John died shortly after 1815 and Rachel married secondly Reuben B. Woodall.
