Pvt. Joel M. Stephens enlisted at the age of 17 on 9/25/1861 with Company E, 30th GA Volunteer Infantry, Army of TN, CSA.
Joel served with his 4 older brothers and was the only one who did not survive the horrible war.
He was captured at Rough & Ready , GA on 9/4/1864, sent to Camp Douglas II & died of Typhoid Fever on February 1, 1865. He was buried at Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, IL
