About Pvt. William Raven Kinzer, (CSA)
William Raven Kinzer was seventeen years old when he joined the Confederate Army in Mercer County on August 5, 1861, in Capt. John R. Dunlap's Co. 23rd Battalion of Virginia Volunteers Infantry. He was born June 4, 1844, in Montgomery County, Va. After the war was over, he married Margaret Elizabeth Farmer in Mercer County, on April 5, 1866. They lived on their farm at Matoaka and were the parents of five sons and three daughters. William died December 23, 1889, at age forty-five from a fallen tree. Elizabeth stayed on the farm with her children, until they were grown and never remarried. Elizabeth died September 20, 1922. Both are buried at Matoaka, W.Va., beside two sons in Kinzer Cemetery.
Children of Wiliam & Margaret (Farmer) Kinzer: Nancy E. Kinzer Harmon (1867 - 1956), Michael Farmer Kinzer (1869 - 1906), John W. Kinzer (1871 - 1895), Lucinda Jane Kinzer Dunn (1873 - 1963), and Samuel Coy Kinzer (1876 - 1951).
