About Rachel Lester
https://oldpeterskaggs.blogspot.com/2015/05/dna-testing-old-peter-s...
A lot of DNA research and family group info.
Subject A, a correspondent descended from Old Peter Skaggs has confirmed an autosomal DNA match with Subject B, a confirmed descendant of the Rachel Skaggs who married William Calvin Lester. Subject A is a Skaggs descending from Old Peter through his son John. Subject B descends from Rachel Skaggs through her daughter Martha and the Blankenship family of Virginia. A third Subject C is also a descendant from Old Peter through his son John and matches both subjects A and B at the same segment of DNA.
This DNA result is BIG because it provides evidence that:
- Old Peter Skaggs was related to Rachel Skaggs, wife of William Calvin Lester, with a high degree of certainty since it is a match of three individuals at a common segment of DNA
- Confirms family relationships through DNA that already existed on paper, e.g. Rachel Skaggs' husband William Calvin Lester posted bond for Old Peter's marriage to Martha Cothon.
- At least one other member of the Skaggs family (Rachel) was taken into capitivity with Ruth Skaggs Bishop by the Indians then subsequently rescued and returned to Virginia
- It is less credible that Zachariah Skaggs was the father of either Old Peter or Rachel since he had a son Jeremiah with wife Anne in 1766, about the same time as Old Peter and Rachel were born to a Skaggs father and we know Rachel was born to Ruth Skaggs Bishop, not Anne Skaggs, wife of Zachariah

Ruth Scaggs and Rachel Scaggs were kidnapped by Indians in Virginia during Lord Dunmore's War in 1774 and they were rescued from captivity during the Virginia Militia attack on the Cherokees at Chickamauga in 1779 and brought back to Virginia. This is consistent with Bishop family legend that Ruth was captive for about four years and came back to Virginia with kids.
