About Rachel Seaton

From ancestry.com:

"Rachel is the last known child of John and Mary Smith Chenoweth. She was probably born in Frederick County, Virginia and married in that area, at the age of about 18, to Kenner Seaton. Kenner, a son of James Seaton II and Elizabeth Kenner, both native Virginians, saw service in the Revolutionary War . Six of their eight children were probably all born in Virginia. In the late 1770's Rachel and James lived in Monongalia Co., VA as did Kenner's parents and many of his siblings. Here Kenner was left with land by his father's will of 1779. In 1786, Kenner and Rachel moved to what is now Jefferson County, KY. Here last two children were born and seven of their 8 children would grow to marry. One of these marriages between their daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Seaton, and Levi Grafton Whitaker, founded a long line of Whitakers that would relocate to Morgan Co., IN."

There were a number of Chenoweths in this part of Kentucky. Rachel's brother Richard had arrived first and helped to found Louisville. Rachel and Richard's nephew, William, had followed. About 1784, her brother, Arthur, and sister, Elizabeth Chenoweth Stuart, came to live. Later two other nephews, Absolum and Jonathan (a brother to William) would also come to Kentucky. Kenner Seaton also had several Seaton siblings that settled here as well. Rachel died in Jefferson Co. at the age of 53. James Kenner remarried to Jane, the widow of John Mundel, and lived another 22 years. Kenner and Rachel's youngest son, Richard, would marry Elizabeth Mundel, a daughter of his step mother's first marriage. Rachel and Kenner are buried in the Chenoweth Run cemetery, 4 miles SE of Jeffersontown, Jefferson Co., KY.
