About Rebecca Bowman

Rebecca (Smith), b. abt. 1631; m. (1) Samuel Smith, b. abt. 1625, son of Lieut. Samuel and Elizabeth (--) Smith of Wethersfield and Hadley; divorced; m. (2) in 1669, Nathaniel Bowman, who d. at Wethersfield, in 1707. No issue. Letters in the Winthrop Collection prove that her first husband left her and went to Virginia and that she divorced him. A joint deposition was made 8 Mar. 1679/80 by Samuel Hale, aged 65, and Rebecca Bowman, aged about 50, pertaining to the lands originally granted to Rev. Henry Smith.
