

Rev. Elam Lyons led a very interesting life. Not only was he a minister of the gospel, but he worked as a courier delivering secret documents for the Maritime Division of the Federal Government. !st WIFE: Vera Maude Boyette. Rev. Lyons was a Baptist preacher in the Tampa area where he married his first wife, Vera Maude Boyette in 1931. One child, Helen Virginia Lyons (1934- ) was born to this couple while in Tampa. Their daughter was also fluent in speaking several languages. This first marriage terminated in 1943, following a very disagreeable divorce with a nine year old daughter in the middle. Afterward, Lyons moved to Jacksonville and worked at the shipyards building ships for the military during WWII. 2nd WIFE: Frances Huffling. Frances Huffling, who became his 2nd wife, also worked at the shipyards. Lyons and Huffling were married in 1943. Rev. Lyons at some point changed his affilliation with the Baptist Church to minister in the Church of God. The Lyons and two other couples started two different churches in Jacksonville, one being the Regency Church of God, their home church. As traveling evangelists, they worked in the ministry in Ohio, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas, Mississippi and Florida. Info given by Elam's immediate family. PMLyons

Elam was a 33 degree Mason and was studying for the Yorkshire Rite. He became disabled the last 20 years of his life with rheumatoid arthritis. After Elam died in 1988, Frances continued to preach the gospel. Info by Frances Lyons, wife of Elam.
