Preston Bond was the son of William Bond and Rebecca Johnson.
At the age of nineteen, Preston became a Methodist Minister. On August 13, 1849 in Knox County, Kentucky, Preston married Belinda Fletcher Arthur. Preston and Belinda had children: Rebecca Jane, Edward Scott, Claiborne Arthur, Mary William, Annie Kansas, Preston Walter, Capitola Elizabeth, Belinda Addie, John J. Crittenden, Emma Ophelia, Bolivar, and Bolivia Ann.
Preston also fathered two children by Jane Arthur, a slave, who at one time was the "property" of Belinda's parents. Jane was "given" to Preston and Belinda as a wedding present and made her home with the Bond family. The children of Preston and Jane are: James and Henry. The Bond children formed an extended family; they called Jane, "Mammy" and Belinda, "Ma."
