He died between 10 Nov 1596, when he made his will, and 10 Mar 1596/77, when John Fermin, his successor as rector of Foxearth, co Essex, was presented by the patron of that living, Anne Butts, widow.

Apparently he continued to live at Boxted until 1583, for the baptisms of his five children by his first wife down to and including Daniel who was bapt 2 May 1583, were recorded there. On 14 July 1583 he was inducted as rector of Hinderclay, in northern Suffolk. From about 1594 until his death he was rector of Foxearth, co Essex. His son Nathaniel was baptized there, and his next and youngest child.
