About Reverend Thomas Morse
"named as living, in the will of his grandfather, Robert Morse, 5 Oct 1551, and as "Thomas Mosse the Elder" in the will of his uncle, John Mosse, the Elder, 23 Sep 1577, and probably identical with the Rev. Thomas Morse who is given as No 4 of this pedigree.
He died between 10 Nov 1596, when he made his will, and 10 Mar 1596/77, when John Fermin, his successor as rector of Foxearth, co Essex, was presented by the patron of that living, Anne Butts, widow.
Rev Thomas Morse was presented to the vicarage of Boxted, co Essex, of which the Bishop of London was a patron, in 1573, and held this living until 1578, when he resigned, his successor , Rev. Philip Silgate, being presented on 18 Mar 1578/9. Apparently he continued to live at Boxted until 1583, for the baptisms of his five children by his first wife down to and including Daniel who was bapt 2 May 1583, were recorded there. On 14 July 1583 he was inducted as rector of Hinderclay, in northern Suffolk. From about 1594 until his death he was rector of Foxearth, co Essex. His son Nathaniel was baptized there, and his next and youngest child.
In his will, he bequeathed to his nine children now living 90 pounds, that is 20 pounds to every child, the eight sons at age 23, and the daughter at age 21. Brother Richard and sister Margaret. He left all the books in his study to his eldest son, Rev. John Morse, a parish clergyman in the Church of England.
To his eldest son he gave all the books in his study, and to his wife Margaret the residue of his estate,and she was to bring up his children in learning.
