Richard's brother Seth Chitwood, b 1766 VA, d 1850, Richard and 4 siblings went to St. Louis Dist. in 1798/9. Richard received a Spanish land concession of 600 arpents on Mississippi River about 3 miles below mouth of the Missouri River, in St. Ferdinand Twp.

He was appointed a Justice of the Peace for St. Ferdinand Twp.
