About Robert French Abbott
Joined the US Navy in Feb 1942. He served on a subchaser and took part in the Kwajalein invasion in the Pacific. He attended Gunnery School in Washington, D.C. and was discharged from the military in December 1945 as Gunners Mate, 1st Class.
According to the 1950 Census, he worked as a serviceman for Water-softener Co.
In July 1954 he and his wife purchased the Salinas South Main Street Fosters Freeze. He actively worked the restaurant daily. He was instrumental in re-designing the facilities in 1956 and developing the current facilities in 1985 consistent with his vision. He acquired multiple Fosters Freeze locations in Hollister, Santa Cruz and Watsonville. He remained active in the business until 1990.
