About Robert Stanton Avery
He was a goldsmith. He was also a successful farmer. He was appointed lieutenant, Nov. 29, 1802 ; captain, 1st company, 8th reg't militia, April 25, 1805 ; major of 2d reg't, horse artillery, June, 1837; justice of the peace, 1820-1840, inclusive (State Records, Hartford) ; an earnest Whig; represented Preston in the state legislature, 1812; belonged to the Separatist church and later to the Congregational.
