Biography

Robert Barrow was the son of John and Anne (___) Barrow. [1]

Robert is named eldest son, in the will of his father John Barrows, dated January 12, 1691/2. He received his father's right to land and meadow in Plymouth, bought of Francis Billington. [2]

He married first, Ruth Bonum/Bonham, daughter of George, on November 28, 1666 at Plymouth. [3] [1]

On February 21, 1679, George Bonum granted to Robert and Ruth Barrows, land in the 'newfield' at Plymouth, a parcel of six acres, and 4 acres of meadow. [4]

John Barrows, son of Robert and Ruth, grandson of George Bonum, sold the all his rights and interest in those lands to his brother Samuel Barrows on February 26, 1696/7. [4]

Robert married second before 1686, Lydia Dunham, daughter of John Dunham. Lydia was admitted to the church at Plymouth in 1686. [1]

In the will of John Dunham, written February 2, 1691/2, he bequeaths to his son Robert Barrow and Lydia his wife, and to her heirs, 30 acres at Monponset in Plymouth. [2]

Robert's will was written December 9, 1707, with a codicil added on December 19, 1707. He mentions:

On June 20, 1707, George Barrow, Adam Wright and wife Mehitable Wright, testified that they had received their portions of the the estate of their father Robert Barrow from their mother-in-law, widow Lydia Barrow. [5]

On December 22, 1725, the children and grandchild of Robert Barrow and wife Ruth of Plymouth both deceased, being George Barrow for himself and sister Mehitable, Samuel Barrow, Samuel Barrow, son of John Barrow deceased and Ruth Briggs, sold a house, lot and barn at Plymouth to Robert Barrow of Mansfield, Connecticut. From the "Genealogical and Family History of Central New York": BARROWS - The name, whether spelled Barrus, Barrows, Barrowe or Barrow, from Barrow, a mound, or borough, a town. is of the family that lived in Yarmouth, England. before 1637. Out of the family was sent to New England in 1637 the immigrant ancestor of the name of Barrus or Barrows in America. in the person of John Barrows. (I) John Barrows was born in England in 1609, and he left Yarmouth, England, at the age of twenty-eight, with his wife Anne, and settled in Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony. John and Anne Barrows received grants of land in Salem in 1637, and were inhabitants of that town for twenty-eight years, and all their children were born there. They removed to Plymouth before 1665. and John. the immigrant, died there in 1692. His will shows that he left a second wife younger than himself, and four sons: Robert, of whom further; Joshua, Benjamin, who lived in Attleboro; and Ebenezer, who lived in Cumberland. Rhode Island; also two daughters, Mary and Deborah. Robert, eldest son of John and Anne Barrows, was born in Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony, removed with his father to Plymouth, and had by his first wife, Ruth ——, four children: John, b_orn 1667, died in Plymouth, 1720; George, of whom further; Samuel, born 1672, died in Middleboro, 1755; Mehitable, married Adam Wright.
