"Reuben Green of Clinton Co., OH, sometimes related to his son that the father of Robert Green who was probably born about the year 1700... came to America from England on board a Man of War, serving in the capacity of 'powder monkey'. Also that said soldier had his initials branded on his arm, which he thinks were R.S.G., and these initials, included the initials of both his father and his mother. Also, it was said that the branding of these initials of his name being upon his person, insured his burial, in the event of his being lost at sea, if afterward his body should be found." [From a paper laid in an old Green Family Bible]
