Robert Hancock, I was born circa 1650 in Henrico County, Virginia, United States of America. He was a Plantation Owner.

Robert married Johane Ligon Hancock in 1663 in Henrico, Henrico, VA. Together they had the following children:

  2. Johanna Hancock;
  3. Phoebe Bailey;
  4. Simon Hancock;
  5. Mary Hatcher;
  6. William Hancock;
  7. Elizabeth Hancock;
  8. Robert Hancock.

He died on March 1, 1709, in Norfolk, Henrico, Virginia.


Robert was referred to as 'A Man of comparatively comfortable means.'

I Robert Hancock do give unto my son in law Samuel Hancock and my daughter Johan his wife 200 acres of land during both their lives and after both their deaths to either of my daughter Johan Hancock's children, which of them the said Samuel Hancock shall think fit to give it to; but if in case my daughter Johan dies without heirs, then land to return to my heirs. The aforesaid land lying and being in the County of Henrico on the south side of the James River, nigh the head of Mount Malady, patents the place where the said Hancock now liveth. Beginning nigh the head of the N.E. line...degrees and poles...

...to my loving wife Johan Hancock all that plantation and land whereon I now live during her natural life and all my slaves, etc... ...to my daughter Phoebe Hancock 100 acres of land in said county joining land of Thomas edwards... ...to my daughter Elizabeth Hancock 100 acres of land joining on the land I gave to John Hatcher... ...to two sons Robert and William Hancock all the rest of land not before devised being the land near the Red Water and is parted by 200 acres of land which I gave to my son in law Samuel Hancock. Son Robert to have his choice of the two parcels when he comes of age... ...to my two sons Robert and William and my five daughters Sarah, Mary, Johan, Phoebe and Elizabeth to each one shilling sterling...wife to be executrix...my hand and seal this 18 October 1708...

The following is the will of Robert's mother-in-law.

In the name of God Amen... I Mary Ligon Senr. of Henrico being weak of body but of perfect memory...etc...to my son Richard Ligon 100 acres of land known by the name of Curles, joining upon the land of Mr. Richard Cocke...to my son Hugh Ligon 100 acres of land known by the name of Curles, joining the river and aforesaid land given unto my son Richard Ligon... ...to my grandson Thomas Farrar my own bed and furniture, two pairs of sheetes...etc...and my wedding ring to be delivered him at the day of his marrying or reaching age 21...but should the said Thomas Farrar depart this life before he comes of age or marries, the same to remain in possession of my daughter Hancock in whose hands they now are...to my son-in-law Thomas Farrar, my Indian Boy Robin...to my grandson Henry Ligon one young horse...I do constitute and ordain my son-in-law Robert Hancock and my daughter Johan Hancock to be executor and executrix of this my last will and testament...this 18th day of March 1702/03.
