Will of Robert Hughes, dated July 13, 1750, proved Sept. 22, 1755 Cumberland County, Virginia. Legatees: daughter Sarah Woodson; daughters Mary Walton and Martha Walton; 4th daughter Susanna Hughes, 5th daughter Temperance Hughes; wife Martha; sons Abraham and Robert.
To Eldest dauter Sarah Woodson one shilling sterling. To second dauter Mary Woaltum (Walton) one shilling sterling. To third dauter Martha Woaltum (Walton) one shilling sterling. To fourth dauter Susanna H. Hughes a good well Furnished Feather Bed, a hoars Bridle and a saddle to the vallue of ten pounds, and my Mulatto girl Betty & Negro woman Nan the two slaves I Bought at my Brother Ashford's out cry, and twenty pounds in Cash. Fifth Dauter Temperance Hughes two negroes Hannah and Mat and their future increase and after my wifes Decease or marriage Negro Man Londun. Land housing and plantation whare on I now live to wife Martha Hughes During Natural life or widdowhood and after her Decreas or Marriage the land to son Abroham Hughes During his Natural life and after his Deceas to the Heirs of his boddy and in Defect of such an Heir land aforesaid to my son Robert Hughes to him and his Heirs Forever. Land housing and plantations I hold and possesse on each side the month of Muddy Creek to wife Martha Hughes During her Natural life or widdowhood and after her Decrease or Marriage to my Eldest sun Robert Hughes. To wife Martha Hughes all my slaves not Deviesed all household goods and all hoars, hogs, cattle & sheep and all other moveable other Estates. All Dets (debts due) "fer her Raise whear with all to pay my Detts and to Rais my Dauters poarsions and to give them Edcation & to Support hur During hur life or widdohud and after hur Deceas or Marriage all that is left of paying my Dauters poarsions I give to my two Suns Robert Hughes and Abraham Hughes to be Eaqually Devided between them and thear Heirs.
