About Robert Williams Malone was one of the most prominent merchants in the state of Texas, who misfortune was to cross paths with Stephen Maston Nixon[Stephen Maston Nixon, I] He a prominent and leading citizen of Caldwell County and Luling. As was the man who took his life. On the morning of May 8, 1904, the morning began as every morning in the beautiful town of Luling Texas. All of the Merchantile shops were opening for business and the town was busy getting ready for the day, nothing seemed amiss. The bank President opened the bank as usual, but the employees did notice he wasn't in his usual mild-mannered friendly outgoing man, he just walked out without saying a word to anyone. Then there was an argument again between Bob Malone and Maston Nixon, but, no one thought much of it because for a few years of family problems or a bad business deal, they always argued. Suddenly this day, everyone heard gunshots, this time Maston pulled out a gun and just started shooting Bob Malone several times until he fell dead. Mr Veazy ran out from the mercantile store to try to take the gun from Nixon and got shot and also died. No matter what the feud was about it wasn't worth the lives of two men[ [https://www.newspapers.com/clip/35593758/the_st_louis_republic/?xid...]].
Killed while trying to stop this murder was his cousin/business partner, John Lipscombe Veazey. He was buried in Austin, Travis, TX, United States.
