About Sgt. Robert Martin

REVOLUTIONARY WAR PATRIOT

A Robert Martin arrived in SC in 1766 and the passenger list states he was 26 when he arrived, giving a birth year of 1740.

Robert Martin appears in the 1790-1810 census records for SC. Between 1790 and 1800 he moved his family from Charleston District to Union County.

A Robert Martin from SC did serve in the Revolutionary War. He is listed in various records and was a Sergeant when he left the service after the war. One record shows he served from 24 July 1777 to 15 November 1783.

He married first Nancy Lindsay and second an Elizabeth. There is no actual record of his death or where he was buried. He does not appear in the 1820 census for SC and presumably he died between 1810 and 1820. In 1816, he would have been 76 years of age.
