Abstracts of early Woburn deeds: recorded at Middlesex Co.Registry, 1649-1700, by Edward F. Johnson, 1895, p. 34-35:

In July, 1676, Robert Pierce, aged about 59, testified in the prosecution against Benjamin Simonds of Woburn for committing violence on his daughter, Elizabeth Pierce, aged 18. In this case there were many Woburn witnesses called among them being Dinah Knight, aged 15, and her sister Hannah Knight,nieces of Robert Pierce.. Benjamin Simonds was finally acquitted of the serious charges brought against him.

p. 48 April 25, 1696:

Benjamin Pierce, of Woburn, tailor,for 70 pounds sold land belonging to his parents because he has "obliged himself to fulfil a bond of mine to keep and maintain my aged father & mother, Robert Pierce and Mary Pierce, during their lives". Hannah Pierce releases her dower. Signed Benja' Pierce and a seal. Hannah Pierce her mark and a seal.

Note of author: These lands that were sold were formerly given to Benjamin by his father.

Origins

John, of Watertown, freeman Mar 1638, a man of very good estate, project. settlement at Sudbury and Lancaster. His will of 4 Mar 1658 was probated 1 Oct 1658. In it he provides for daughter Elizabeth, eldest son Anthony, and other children without naming them; but his widow in her will of 15 Mar 1667 supplies the deficiency naming children Anthony, John, Robert, Esther Morse wife of Joseph, Mary Coldam, beside grandchildren Mary Ball, and another Ball, Esther Morse, and the children of Anthony and Robert.
