About Robert Taylor Rash, (CSA)

In October of 1901 John and Martha Brown filed lawsuit ordering the sale of the lands belonging to Joseph H. Frisby. It was Ordered by Court to be sold and money divided among heirs in January of 1902.
Later, in 1902, R. Taylor Rash and his wife, Lindy are found owning and farming, 160 acres in Arkansas.

These two ancestors, Taylor and "Lindy" Rash did not leave North Carolina until after January 4, 1902, as they are on documented records(2) just loaded to media.

Loaded in Media, six(6) pictures, two of the 1920 USFC, two of the 1910 USFC, and two of the 1900 USFC with this Robert Taylor Rash using "Thomas" Rash as his name, showing his birth year incorrectly as 1853. Birth year shown is actually his wife's Mary Malinda Rash's birth year of 1853. This is the actual path from North Carolina to Oklahoma that was taken by this Rash Family. Facts of the Birth Places of two of Robert and Mary's daughters is said to be Tennessee. So, they traveled through Tennessee before 1900.

13th Census of the United States, 1910 USFC shows living in Dewey, Oklahoma, Rash, Robert T. and his wife, Mary Rash with their son, William Rash. Oscar W. Rodgers is listed as Boarder in this household. He is Hattie Rash's brother. W.O. Rash's wife is Hattie Rash(born Rodgers)

1870 USFC record for Leicester Township, Buncombe County, North Carolina. In the entry columns, first two at top of screenshot is Richmond Speaks and his wife, that looks as though spelled Bepie, or similar(handwriting researchers say possibly Sophie). The facts of this Census record, as with any other Census record as only as accurate as the Enumerator writing the data believes it to be. The early Census Enumerator was nicknamed, "Nosey Nellys", alot of people would not talk to them.

In household after Richmond and his wife is, our Martin Rash(born on record 1809, Iredell County, NC, US making him, actually 61 years of age)and his wife, Lucinda,(the age: 59, has been proven to be that, of Lucinda Lunsford Rash) numerous citings of sources, the next entry is Rash, Jane(this record states she is age:45, she is not, she was born in 1845 with records and sources, she is 25 years of age in 1870),this is "Big" Mary Rash, who married Netherton, this is proven with the very well documented Lunsford family, the Netherton family, Rash family of researchers for more than 40 years. The Census Enumerator would not go directly to the family and ask questions, the information obtained was obtained from neighbors, the next is Robert, who is this, Robert Taylor Rash. The two oldest, unmarried children were compelled or felt, "obligated" by Appalachian "virtues" to take care of their "elderly" parents, namely, Martin Rash and his wife, Lucinda Lunsford Rash. Notice the birth years of all are not correct. It is showing Mary 20 years old in 1870, we know she was born 1845. Making her, actually 25, and living in Martin Rash household in 1870. Next, Robert who is listed at 19, he has been shown with sources to be born 1847, making him 2 years younger than his sister, "Big" Mary Rash Netherton. This is the genealogy of this family.

Research shows Affidavit of Lorenzo Frisby writing that Malinda Rash, is wife of Taylor Rash. Loaded in Sources. Signature date at bottom seems to be 1879. The 0 and 4 directly after the year is most likely the year it was researched by earlier researchers, who should not have made markings on document.
Little known fact, this Lorenzo Frisby signed his name with the y on Frisby looking like a lowercase u. This handwriting of his letter y on Frisby was also mis interpretated as i, e. It is how he signed his name, the last letter of Frisby, a y, Lorenzo made it look like a u, with the upward marks of the u wide enough to look like seperate letters, hence mistaken for an i, and an e. Written that way on purpose, that's how he signed his name. His writing teacher was Malinda Rash.

On Thirteenth United States Federal Census, 1910, top of page, for Dewey Township, Washington County, State of Oklahoma, Head: Robert T. Rash, age 61; Mary Rash, wife, age 57; Willie Rash, age 14. This 1910 U.S.F.C. gives the ages of household members on 15 April 1910. Birth States of Willie's parents, are both shown to be North Carolina. This Willie Rash birthplace is shown Missouri.

Their daughter, Sarah Leona"Ona" Rash born 1879 is on sourced records of being the last child of "Cinda" and "R.T." Rash to be born in Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States.

Mr. Miller in his published booklet, establishes this Robert Taylor Rash and Mary Malinda Rash as leaving in 1878, western North Carolina and traveling west,[sources shown they traveled through the State of Tennessee, as their oldest, two daughters are shown on 1900 USFC Record as being born in Tennessee, United States, while on the same 1900 USFC Record a William W. Rash, born in Missouri, at 6 years of age, in 1900, is shown living in the same household with this Rash family. This William W. Rash is actually William Otto Rash, finally establishing their homestead in Benton, Missouri. Clearly, they were established living in Greeneville, Green County, Tennessee when their daughter Alice was born in 1883, and Bonnie in 1888. In 1895, they are established living in St.Clair County, Missouri, United States when their son, William Otto Rash was born.

This Robert Taylor Rash who joined the CSA, fought along beside of his comrades of the 46th Infantry of North Carolina. Who, after the Civil War was over, is shown by sourced records to have moved west, 1878-1895, and by the recording of correspondence of letters and the witnessed conversations he had with his sons, Robert Marion RASH and Frank RASH. This ancestor was researched by previous highly qualified genealogists who found R.T. Rash was heavily questioned about his father and brothers. The reasons behind the,"being heavily questioned by the authorities at that time", are this Robert Taylor Rash is related(15th cousin) to Major J.A. Barker(C.S.A.), who, had major victories of battle against Union troops, before losing the war. 15th cousin to Sgt. Nehemiah Patterson Oakes. He is also 13th cousin to Brig. Gen. Randall Lee Gibson(C.S.A.). 12th cousin of Reverend Stephen Calvin Allgood. Numerous others are found to be related. There are personal family writings of these members of family communicating with each other.
There are written statements and books written by researchers of other families related to this Robert Taylor Rash, who clearly state his father is Martin Rash born 1809 in what was then called the Iredell's section of Wilkes County, North Carolina, as the counties were not completely established until after 1812. This is because before North and South Carolina established themselves it was Virginia, Colonial America. Before there were Counties, there were sections that were named for the Revolutionary war soldiers who were given land from the government for the service of fighting for independence against the British troops sent over from England. There was a Land Grant Office that kept up with all of this. Anyone has the ability fact check that with the Revolutionary war of 1812.

Robert Taylor Rash stating his father was never called Thomas only Martin.
Robert Taylor Rash, after leaving western North Carolina, between 1895 and 1900, with his wife, on their journey west to educate the public, Robert Taylor Rash quit using his first given name, Robert, and only used his middle name, Taylor RASH, or his initials R.T. RASH

Citing all records, he is either addressed as Taylor Rash or R.T. Rash on all documents and records after leaving North Carolina between 1895 and 1900. He obtained help from his family and friends. Later, he is found in the southeastern States as R.T. Rash, shown by documented, sourced, verifiable records for Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma as Taylor Rash and R.T. Rash. After arriving in Arkansas, then later in Texas he became known as R.T. Rash, very well known person.
Easily found on FACTUAL, DOCUMENTED, VERIFIABLE SOURCES, by owning land, raising cattle, and overseeing his ranch, and being an educator of public instruction, same as his wife, working together.

Researchers will find this ancestor, as his father also only used their middle given names as their common names. On records, father and son are clearly found with their names signed, Taylor Rash, and Martin Rash; R.T. Rash and T.M. Rash, this T.M. Rash, quit using his first name early in life, only went by, and signed his name Martin Rash. After leaving North Carolina Robert Taylor Rash done the same, Taylor Rash, records of this in southeastern areas of United States.
Most, highly likely prisoner of war, of the Civil War, found to be a schoolteacher as his wife is also. They journeyed together westward from western North Carolina. Family rumor, conditional release from Prisoner of War camp, if him and his wife would go west and educate the the public. I researched this all the way to the presidents of that time, who are documented to have given some American p.o.w.'s clemency and pardons for doing work for educational performances. The FACTUAL, WELL DOCUMENTED SOURCES such as, the 1900 and 1910 United States Federal Census records, Taylor Rash living in Southeastern States and personal archives and numerous other researchers published works.

Gravesites are outside of Dewey, Oklahoma.

  • **SPECIAL NOTE***

Nancy Miller Thompson Smith's Book has Major Error, "6. Martha Ellen Rash m. Clurg Pritchard..."
This is a working researchers, notebook of genealogy research of the ancestor, ROBERT TAYLOR RASH, printed at top of research paper.
I know, because I am the researcher. Wherever she got this, and i already know, is not stated in her book. Oh, a souced, highly verifiable fact that Nancy Miller Thompson Smith has printed, not very nicely obtained documents, unresearched by her, or anyone she knows, as being the descendants of these ancestors of living descendants.
The facts show with sources that this Martha Ellen Rash married Charles Wesley"James" McClendon as they were traveling to Missouri, United States.
The fact is, I put McClurg Pritchard in there, for a "placeholder", for the research of McClendon. There is NO McClurg Pritchard. Anyone, who uses that name is not researching on their own. They are using my Notes of Research. I put McClurg for the McClendon family, had to have a surname for "placeholder". I used a surname, Pritchard from my paternal lineage, that is very well established, documented and published. If people are going to publish researchers notes, they should, at least give credit from where they obtained their information, such as Sources. If they do not, they are mis informing the public, at-large. Also, mis informing the next generation of researchers, who may want to research for themselves.

The following biography, written in 1922, was published by Washington County, Oklahoma. In 1977 Danny L. Miller included it in a Rash family booklet. This booklet was quoted as the source of information about the family and descendants of Robert T. Rash.

“R.T. RASH - ROBERT TAYLOR RASH”
“For almost two decades R.T. Rash has been identified with the agricultural development of Oklahoma and although seventy-three years of age he is still actively engaged in operating his farm near Dewey, being the owner of one of the best ranches in this section of the state. A native of North Carolina he was born June 15, 1848, his parents being Martin and Nancy Lucinda (Lansford) Rash, both of whom have passed away. In 1878 when thirty years of age the son came to the West settling near Warsaw in Benton County, Missouri where he homesteaded a tract of one hundred and sixty acres. This he continued to improve and develop until 1902 when he came to Oklahoma, locating just south of Dewey. He secured from Frank Overless a lease of three hundred acres and continued to cultivate that place for seven years, when he purchased a farm of one hundred and sixty acres one mile northeast of Dewey. He now owns one hundred and seventy acres of land. He has brought his land to a good state of development, growing there large crops of wheat, corn, oats, potatoes, beans and alfalfa. He milks four cows and formerly raised beef cattle, horses and mules besides small stock. He knows how to contend with soil and climate conditions here and has raised forty bushels of a very fine grade of wheat to the acre. He has gained the expert knowledge of his occupation which is acquired only through long practical experience and has worked diligently and persistently as the years have passed, employing the most intelligent and progressive methods in the cultivation of his farm which he has converted into a very desirable property.
“On February 19, 1870 Mr. Rash was united in marriage to Miss Malinda Frisby, a native of Buncombe County North Carolina in which their wedding occurred. They became the parents of thirteen children of whom Grover Cleveland, Robert Marion, Martha Ellen and Louis are deceased and two died at birth. Those who survive are Nancy Lucinda, Thomas Franklin, Jacob Henry, William Otto, Sarah Leona, Alice and Bonnie.”
