About Robert Alan Rogers

GEDCOM Note

Robert Alan "Bob" Rogers, beloved husband, father, grand-father, in-law, uncle, and friend to all fortunate to know him, passed peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of November 17, 2011 at the age of 80. Born on April 20, 1931 in Seattle, Bob entered the world as the youngest of eight children of Harold and Emma Rogers. Bob was Bar Mitzvahed at Temple De Hirsch in 1944, graduated from Garfield High School in 1949, and is a 1953 alumnus of the University of Washington with his degree in Sociology. Bob entered the United States Air Force in the fall of 1953 during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Lieutenant and was stationed abroad in Germany and Libya before receiving his honorable discharge in late-1955. In November, 1955, after enrolling in University of Washington's School of Pharmacy, Bob met the love of his life Eleanor Leah "Bunny" Freidman, to whom he would become engaged in September, 1957, and marry three months later on December 22. Upon graduation from Pharmacy School, Bob and Bunny moved to Edmonds, WA, and in 1968, permanently relocated to Mercer Island, WA where Bob became a fixture in the community as president of the local Kiwanis, a member of the Mercer Island Masonic Lodge, and a volunteer to many causes. Longtime business owners, Bob and Bunny ran two drugstores in Downtown Seattle until 1978, when Bob became the pharmacy manager at Rite Aid on Mercer Island until his retirement in 1998. Bob and Bunny were simply inseparable, traveling the world together throughout retirement. Avid cruisers with their dear friends, Eileen and Bob Zube of Bellevue, WA, as well as Joel and Lou Price of Denver, CO, Bob and Bunny visited five continents and countless nations. A die-hard University of Washington athletics fan, Bob followed his beloved Huskies across the county, often tailgating and swapping stories with fans at every host school. In retirement, Bob's satisfied his lifelong passion for learning as a continuing education student at the University of Washington. For over 13 years, Bob met daily with his peers and professors alike, discussing the day's lessons while walking its beautiful campus for hours on end. Bob is survived by Bunny, his loving wife of 54 years, daughter Emmi (Matthew Kearns) of Kirkland, WA, and sons Joel (Ruth Lieberman) of Lafayette, CO, and Adam (Miri Stern) of Seattle, WA, as well as grand-children Marty and Valerie Kearns, Ari and Eli Rogers, and Tia and Jared Rogers. Memorial services celebrating Bob's life will be held on Friday, November 18, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Arthur Wright Cemetery on Queen Anne Hill. Remembrances in Bob's name may be made to Temple De Hirsch Sinai, to the University of Washington School of Pharmacy, or to the University of Washington Department of Athletics.
