Rolland L. "Red" Erskine
Rolland L. "Red" Erskine, 79, of Hemlock, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at home surrounded by his family.
Red was born on Jan. 22, 1926, to the late Nina (Kent) and Lloyd Erskine in Hemlock. He retired in 1985 after working for 42 years for The Dow Chemical Co. in the construction field. He married Dorothy A. McPhee on Sept. 17, 1949. She survives him. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock and a founding member of the LaPorte Sportsman's Club.
Surviving besides his wife of 55 years are a son, four daughters and their spouses, David and Roberta Erskine of Freeland, Beth and Dennis Wills of Ionia, Janine and Richard Darling of Midland, Marilyn and Rocky Thompson of Allendale and Karen and Scott Freeman of Wilkesboro, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Wendy (Jim) Baty, Amy (Jason) Gole, Sergeant Daniel Turner, U.S. Army, Jason Ryal, Kyle Erskine, Krista, Nicole and Andrew Darling and Amanda and Craig Thompson, Paul and Emily Freeman; two great-granddaughters, Hannah and Ella; one sister and her husband, Dolores and Duane Aelick of Seymour, Ind.; two brothers, Wesley Erskine of Elkhorn, Wis. and Harold and Marlyn Erskine of Hamilton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Erskine of Hemlock and Lorraine Erskine of Elkhorn, Wis.; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George and Kathryn Schrems of Saginaw, Margaret and Francis Hart of Midland and Donald and Mary McPhee of Saginaw; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Duane.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock. The Rev. Richard Jozwiak and Sr. Mary Garascia C.P.P.S. will officiate, with burial in St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, Hemlock. Friends may call at the W.L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, where they will meet at 7:30 p.m. for prayer service.
Friends may then call at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the funeral mass.
