About Rotrude, daughter of Louis I the Pious and Ermengard

Daughter of Louis the Pious and Ermengard de Hesbaye. Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands database does not list any marriages for this Rotrude. Please note that she is not to be confused with the Rotrude who was the daughter of Charlemagne.

LOUIS [Hludowic], son of CHARLES I King of the Franks & his second wife Hildegard, married firstly: 1. Ermengard ([794]) ERMENGARD, daughter of ENGUERRAND Comte [de Hesbaye] & his wife --- ([775/80]-Angers 3 Oct 818[189], bur Angers). With her he had six children, three sons and three daughters: Foundation for Medieval Genealogy and Wikipedia

PW: I have removed Gerard d'Auvergne as a husband, since (translated from French wikipedia) "If we follow the conclusions of Christian Settipani, Gerard d'Auvergne married first to Adaltrude, daughter of Rorgon I, Comte du Maine, and Rotrude - they gave birth to :

1. Ramnulf I (d. 867), Comte de Poitiers from 854 to 866,

2. Perhaps Hiltrude, married to Comte Gailo, parent of Gailo, a donor to the Abbey of Noirmoutier,

3. Perhaps Gerard and Stephen, named in the Liber Memorialis of the Abbey of Reichenau [13] ,

4. Perhaps Hildsinde married to Landeric, Comte de Saintes.

As his second wife, he married a daughter of King Pepin I of Aquitaine."

Last Edited=13 Jul 2005

Rotrud d'Aquitaine was born in 800. She was the daughter of Louis I, Roi de France and Irmengard of Hesbain.

Ben M. Angel notes: Before 962, the entity that became the Holy Roman Empire did not exist. The existent empire at that time was the Carolingian-led Frankish Empire. This person lived and died before 962, so therefore was not a princess of the Holy Roman Empire.
