Rt. Rev. Hon. Shute Barrington was born on 26 May 1734 at Beckett, Berkshire, England.2 He was the son of John Barrington, 1st Viscount Barrington of Ardglass and Anne Daines.1 He married, firstly, Lady Diana Beauclerk, daughter of Charles Beauclerk, 2nd Duke of St. Albans and Lucy Werden, on 2 February 1761.2 He married, secondly, Jane Guise, daughter of Sir John Guise, 4th Bt., on 20 June 1770.2 He died on 25 March 1826 at age 91 at Cavendish Square, Soho, London, England, without issue.1,2

Rt. Rev. Hon. Shute Barrington was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.2 He graduated from Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, on 21 January 1755 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).2 He graduated from Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, on 10 October 1757 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).2 He held the office of Bishop of Llandaff in 1769.1 He held the office of Bishop of Salisbury in 1782.1 He held the office of Bishop of Durham between 1791 and 1826.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.2
