About Rufus Sylvester King
- Grew to nearly six foot tall in Lawrence Co. and was married four years before following his parents to Mifflin Co. in 1907 with wife and son, Samuel. - In 1909, Elizabeth died while giving birth to a baby girl who also died. Rufus remarried in 1912. His son Samuel died at the age of 17 and then in1940 his second wife Elizabeth died. In 1942, Rufus married once more to Emma Byler. - Ellis Zook, his sister Mattie's child lived with Rufus and Emma. Also they raised an orphan named Naomi until she married. - Rufus farmed for ten years before moving to the west end of Belleville called Middletown. He worked at the elevator a few years, then carpentered for his brother-in-law Dane E Yoder and Later with Henry N Zook. He also enjoyed raising goats. (KgSa p.7) - Died after an illness of 8 weeks. - King, Rufus S., son of Samuel S. and Elizabeth (Zook) King, was born in Lawrence Co., Pa., Nov. 1, 1877; died at his home at Belleville, Pa., after an illness of eight weeks, Dec. 28, 1959; aged 82 y. 1 m. 28 d. He was married to Lizzie Glick on Nov. 27, 1902; she died May 30, 1909. On Dec. 12, 1912, he was married to Lizzie Kauffman, who died May 8, 1940. On Feb. 17, 1942, he married Emma Byler, who survives. One son preceded him in death; he had no other children. He was a member of the Locust Grove Church, where funeral services were held Dec. 31, in charge of Erie Renno; interment in Locust Grove Cemetery.
