SALOMON DU PLESSIS Salomon du Plessis was born on 22-11-1705 ninth child of the Reformed family of Huguenot Michel du Plessis in Bergen op Zoom. Father Michel was a teacher in the French language(Oostburg) and singer en verger in the walloon church (dutch:'voorzanger en koster') / pastor in the Walloon church, later he became a medical doctor(in dutch: 'chirurgijn').
Salomon arrived in 1734 in Paramaribo, he worked as a lawyer for the East India Company. In Suriname, he met the very wealthy Magaretha Strijp (1706-1769) married in 1737 and know her. From this marriage were born two children, Maria Susanna du Plessis on 10-03-1739 and in 1741 was Reinier Isaac du Plessis. Reinier Isaac also owned and plantation called 'Hope'. He died on 25-07-1787 in Amsterdam and was like his father buried in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. Magaretha Strijp was previously married to Daniel Pichot (d. 1734) and inherited from him a few plantations. Salomon du Plessis had himself a plantation because of his marriage to the rich family of Striep also known as Streijp.
