His fourth wife, married Aug 1,1756, was Katherine Mears Dexter Barnard, widow of Rev.Samuel Dexter.
He had only one child, by his first wife Sarah, named Samuel Barnard. The baby and Sarah both died the same day, August 4, 1720.
He was originally in Deerfield, having been in the Meadows Fight in 1704, but moved to Salem soon after the deaths of his first wife and his son. He amassed a fortune in trade there, and gave to several charities. The bulk of his estate went to his nephew Joseph, son of his brother Ebenezer Barnard.
