Born c.1695 to Joseph and Sarah (nee Strong) Barnard of Northampton, Ebenezer Barnard, a native of colonial Connecticut, died "in ye 68th Year of his Age". On February 29, 1715-16, when he was approximately 20 years old, he married his first wife, Elizabeth Foster, the daughter of James and Ann (nee Lane) Foster of Dorchester. Nine children were born to the couple: Joseph, Ebenezer Jr., Samuel, Abner, Selah, Rebecca Barnard Saxton, Elizabeth Barnard Frary, Anna Foster Barnard, and Lemuel. Two died before reaching adulthood: Ebenezer Jr. at age 17, and Anna at age 11. Mr. Bernard's wife Elizabeth, who was 59 at the time of her death, predeceased him by almost 11 years. He later died in Hadley, Massachusetts.
