Samuel Davis was a Freeman, March 21, 1689 to 1690.He was with Major Simon Willard at the Brookfield fight on Sept. 28, 167'5. (King Philip's War, p. 121.) He settled in that part of Concord which became Bedford, and his homestead is still owned by his descendants today. It is located on the back road from Concord to Bedford, about 3 miles from Concord, on the edge of the river meadow. A well is there which he is said to have dug. He was still living March15,1714 and had already settled upon his sons most of his land during his life time. According to Savage Report, Eleazer, Stephen and Simon were triplets b. 5/26/1680 in Concord. On June 20,1690, Samuel petitioned Concord authorities for 'a bridal path from his house to Billerica road In 1706 he conveys houses and lands to his 'two well beloved sons.' On May 8,1713 he sells house, barn and 9 acres to Eleazer Davis for L50. It appears that he gave his property to his family while living'"

=====

Dolor Davis A Sketch of his Life With A Record of his Earlier Descendants by Horace Davis printed in 1881 page 40 the paragraph is a direct quote it states: " Samuel Davis, son of Dolor and Margery, birth East Farleigh, Kent; married at Lynn, January 11, 1665 or 66, Mary Meddowes. She died at Concord, October 3, 1710. Samuel married second wife October 18, 1711, Ruth Taylor. Ruth died August 6, 1720. Samuel was a freeman March 21, 1689 or 90. He settled in that part of Concord which afterward became Bedford, and his homestead is owned by his descendants to-day. He is my lineal ancestor , (Mine too) and I visited his farm on the back road ( now this description is back in 1881 or so) from Concord to Bedford, about three miles from Concord, on the edge of the river meadow. A well is there which Samuel is said to have dug. Mr. Benjamin J. Davis, the owner of the property, kindly loaned me some ancient deeds, dating from 1694 to1712, and containing signatures of Samuel Davis and some of his family. From these I learned that he was still living March 15, 1714, and had already settled upon his sons most of his land during his own lifetime. Samuel's name sometimes appears on the Concord records, but he took little part in public affairs. In his deeds he styles himself husbandman and yeoman. The date of his death and place of burial are unknown."

Married at Lynn, Essex, Mass.

GEDCOM Note

Samuel Davis lived in Charlestown, MA until about 1660 when he is shown as one of the original proprietors of Groton, MA. On the town books of Groton is a record of 20 acres of land granted him, and that he was chosen Supervisor of Highways in 1663. His name is also found on what is called the Indian Roll or Record of Groton. It appears Samuel and his family often visited William Ridland of Charlestown, his brother-in-law, and probably at times, on account of Indian troubles, he considered it unsafe for his family to remain in Groton, and they went to Charlestown for safety. Records of the Selectmen show that in 1675-6 during King Phillip's War, Samuel's wife Mary and their five children were at the Ridland's in Charlestown. Also, records show that in 1691-2 Samuel and his family, with others, were living in the Garrison as a protection from the Indians. Samuel and his family were back in Groton after the war as his name appears on a list of residents taken about 1681. Indians attacked and killed a man in Groton on the night of October 2425, 1704, said to have been Samuel Davis, but it seems very unlikely since just a few days before his death Samuel made out his will as being "sick and weak of Body". In reality it was his son John. Samuel's will is dated Dec. 20, 1699 and mentions wife Mary, sons John, Nathaniel, and Samuel, and daughters Mary Pratt, Elizabeth Church, Patience Green, and Sarah Cade. It was witnessed by Joseph Parham, Martha Waters, and Jonas Blanchard. The inventory of his estate was taken Jan. 27, 1699-1700 by Joseph Parham and James Blanchard. It was proved March 12, 1699-1700

Mary Davis was buried in Charlestown Oct. 13, 1713. The inventory of Mary's state "late of Charles." was exhibited Oct. 13, 1713 by Joseph Whittemore and Isaac Fowle Charged against the estate were a payment of 16 shillings, 4 pence to Dr. Graves and to "Elizabeth Davis for nursing ye sd Decd. in her long sickness".
