Samuel Knight

SAMUEL KNIGHT born about 1649. He married Amy Carle daughter of Richard and Amy Carle in July of 1676. Richard gave Samuel 15 acres of land at Great Cove in Kittery as a wedding present. Richard later took Samuel to court to get the land back and claimed he was drunk when he gave it away. Samuel retained the land at this time. Samuel and his family lived on Spinney’s cove on a 15 acre grant of land as did his in-laws the Carle’s. Samuel was an educated man and drew up deeds for many local residents. He was once accused of forgery on one of these documents.  

    Samuel and Amy had the following children Elizabeth born Kittery     marr. Thomas Spinney 26 Sept 1697. Catherine born Kittery    marr   Joseph   Hill Sarah       born Kittery    marr   Daniel   Green Mary       born Kittery   in court July 1702 for having a bastard. Possibly a child of

  Benoni Knight. marr Samuel Green 6 Jan 1708
