Lieut. Samuel Loomis was born at Braintree, England, in 1628. He married at Windsor, Connecticut, on 27 Dec 1653, Elizabeth Judd, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Judd. They moved to Westfield, Massachusetts. Samuel died on 1 October 1689 at Westfield, Massachusetts; Elizabeth died on 7 May 1696.


Lieutenant Samuel Loomis, son of Joseph Loomis. was born in England, about 1628, and came with his father to New England. He was a freeman in 1654 and was admitted to the church at Windsor, November 26. 1661. He was a lieutenant at Windsor. He moved to Woronoco (now Westfield) Massachusetts, after 1672 and before 1675. He sold his house in Windsor in 1679, and died October 1, 1689. He married December 27, 1653. at Windsor, Elizabeth Judd, who died May 7. 1696, daughter of Thomas Judd.

William, son of Lieutenant Samuel Loomis, was born at Westfield, March 18, 1672, and died in 1738. He married, January 13. 1/03, Martha Morley, who died February 22, 1753, aged seventy-one years, daughter of Thomas and Martha (Wright) Morley. Children, born in Westfield: Martha, born February 24. 1704, died aged 100 years two months: Joshua, mentioned below; Benjamin, August 30. 1708; Ann, August 27, 1710; William, September 15, 1712; James, November 15, 1714; Thankful, November 19, 1716; Jonathan. Lieutenant Samuel Loomis, youngest child of Joseph and Mary (White) Loomis, was born in Essex county, England, in 1628, and came to New England with the family, in 1638, died in West- field, Massachusetts, October 1, 1689. He spent his early years in Windsor, Connecticut, where he was made a freeman in 1654, and joined the church, November 26, 1661. He moved to Westfield between 1672-75, was ensign of the first Westfield company, commanded by Major John Pynchon in 1674, and served in the Indian War of 1677. He took an active part in church matters, bringing his letter from the church in Windsor and becoming one of the seven original incorporators of the First Congregational Church in West- field. He married, December 27, 1653, Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Judd, who survived him and was living in Westfield in 1716. All but the two youngest children of Lieutenant Samuel Loomis were born in Windsor, they in Westfield. Children : Samuel, Elizabeth, Ruth, Sarah, Joanna, Benjamin, Nehemiah, William, of further mention, Philip and Mary.

Lieut. Samuel, born in England, married Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Judd, Dec. 27, 1653. He was freeman in 1654, and admitted to the church Nov. 26, 1661. He was a lieutenant, and removed to Westfield, Mass., between 1672 and 1675. He sold his dwelling house in Windsor in 1679, and died Oct. 1, 1689. His widow died May 7, 1606.

SAMUEL LOOMIS married ELIZABETH JUDD (daughter of Thomas JUDD born 1602 Langley Parish, Kent, England - died Nov. 12, 1688 Northhampton, MASS. and Sarah FREEMAN born in England) on Dec. 27, 1653 in Windsor, CT. ELIZABETH JUDD was born Dec. 27, 1633 in Farmington, CT. SAMUEL AND ELIZABETH had 10 children: Samuel 1654, Elizabeth 1656, Ruth 1650, Sarah 1663, Joanna 1665, Benjamin 1667, Nehemiah 1670, William 1672, PHILIP 1675 and Mary 1678. Some records show SAMUEL was also married first to Hannah White, then ELIZABETH JUDD, and last, Mary Judd. SAMUEL LOOMIS took the oath of Freeman in 1654. Purchased the Witchfield place, Broad St., site of the present Grace church. Made freeman 1654. Moved to Westfield, Mass between 1672 and 1675. Sold his dwelling house in Windsor in 1679. Elizabeth was still living in Westfield in 1716.[1]

He died on October 1, 1689, in Westfield, Massachusetts, at the age of 61, and was buried there.[citation needed]
