He travelled with his sister, Alice, and his younger brother, Daniel, in 1638 as indentured servants to the Richard Dummer family of Hampshire. This was quite a common practice during this time. They transported aboard the ship "Bevis of Hampton", disembarking at Boston, Suffold, MA. Probably after his 7-year indenture was completed, Samuel married Rebecca Church Abt. 1647 and settled in Newbury, Essex, MA in the Upper Commons near the Merrimack River.

GEDCOM Note

Samuel Poore was born around 1620, in either Wiltshire, Hampshire or Gloucestershire. These varying birth places come from a few sources. Wiltshire is from John Poore, who is probably Samuel's brother. Hampshire comes from the fact that Samuel and two of his siblings were servants of Richard Dummer, of Hampshire. Finally, Gloucestershire comes from a possible father of Samuel, Daniel Poore of Gloucester, born in 1599. His true birth place may lie in the records somewhere, but it hasn't been found, yet.

Samuel came to America on the Bevis, in 1638, along with his siblings, Daniel and Alice. On the passenger list, Samuel's age is given as 18, hence the 1620 birthdate. He was a servant of the Dummer family, but when they arrived in Newbury, he left the employ of Mr. Dummer. It is not known what he did in the years 1638-1653, but on April 15, 1652, he bought land from Tristam Coffin. Apparently, he had earlier settled on land bought of Richard Kent which was adjacent to his new land. Samuel died on October 31, 1683.

He married Rebecca Church in 1646, and they had 8 children
