About Samuel Emil Sund

https://www.stolpersteine-berlin.de/en/biografie/7890 Samuel Sund was born on January 4, 1867 in Berlin. In the 1939 address book he was at the address Hohenzollerndamm 35a and had himself entered as “Rentier”. So he lived on his fortune and did not have to rely on government support. When most of the Jews were deported from the area or when the imminent deportation was announced, according to his neighbor Martin Gerson, Samuel Sund evaded this fate and committed suicide. It happened on September 13, 1942, Samuel Sund was 75 years old.

Samuel Sund's wife was Protestant when she died and maybe she was never Jewish. A sister of Samuel's Sarah Pabst nee Abrahamsohn (1863 -1936) changed her religion in about 1916 - found a document written by her and husnband but it's in German - must look more closely. I also note that Samuel Sund, unemployed, committed suicide by fluoroscopic poisoning (whatever that is) in Sep 1942. His wife had died earlier that year, and he was 75. My husband's grandfather, Albert Abrahamsohn (1869-1943) survived to die of natural causes, because his wife was not Jewish - but family say that he never left his home after he had to wear a yellow star - and the Nazis took their beautiful big white dog from them. And if Jewish people didn't get any ration cards, didn't many die of starvation and despair - or commit suicide to avoid transportation or dying of hunger. Albert had a heart attack, I think. Two brothers, Joseph and Robert were in the USA, and one invented something important for Henry Ford's cars -they were electrical engineers. - in Detroit. One niece got away to Argentina - she had married an Argentinian German, but the poor old mother Julie Blaschke nee Abrahamsohn was murdered in a camp.
