About Santiago Artiaga
Santiago, Lorenzo Onrubio and Juan Tecson were the first three Filipinos sent by the American colonial government to study in the US. He graduated with a degree in civil engineering from the University of Michigan in 1904. He would start working for the city of Manila in July of 1905, becoming Superintendent of the Division of Street Construction and Bridges by 1914. By 1917 he was the 1st Assistant City Engineer. He would become Manila's City Engineer in 1920, and would serve in that capacity until 1936. He served as acting Mayor of Manila from December 1924 to February 1926. He would then serve as mayor of Zamboanga in 1936, would be appointed as mayor of Davao City two months later in 1936, and would be appointed governor of Bukidnon in October of 1939.
