About Sarah Burt
She and her husband Benjamin Burt were captives after the French and Indian sack of Deerfield, a young settlement of Massachusetts, in 1704. Most of the people of that town were killed and a majority of her immediate family had been murdered during random incursions by the French and Indians during the French and Indian war prior to this event. She and Benjamin were taken, along with a few others, up into Quebec to be held as captives. She was pregnant with her first child Christopher at the time, and gave birth to him while in captivity. By the time an agreement was signed by the French and British, she was pregnant again and had her second child, Seaborn, on the boat heading back to Massachusetts. They were redeemed back to a nearby settlement where they lived out the rest of their lives and had many children. An interesting fact is that President Cleveland can trace his roots back to Benjamin and Sarah Burt, as can our family.
