This is a letter found in a family bible written by SarahCastleton January 25th, 1886 My Dear Brother & Children You will think me long in answering your very welcome letter.Barbara was over from Mfrhoe? and was _ave arow Sit down towrite you the news of my dear daughter's death. She died the19th October. It was only a short time after my dear Sister. Itrust they will both meet in Heaven for here there is and___sting and sorrow. I must say I am left lonely now. I am likeyourself. I have only two sons. Barbara comes over every Sunday& sometimes in the middle of the week to see me. She only lives4 miles from me. It is a comfort to her come to see me. DearBrother my trouble is not all over. My Granddaughter Sarah Janethat I brought up. She will only be 3 years married 6th FebruaryherPage 2husband died the 8th of this month. James and Barbara was upwith her. They have just come home from there. She is a youngwidow only 28 years old. They were both one age She has one dearlittle girl. It is plenty to be left without a father but thewidow and orphan has a good Insurance. Our Father in Heaven willnever forsake them. He will be a husband to the widow and aFather to the Orphan. I am very sorry about her for she was adear granddaughter to me. She has a farm of 120 acres. She livesin a lovely country and far from me. We are thinking she mightlet the farm and come and live with me. She would be a comfortto me in my old days. It was a heavy tanl on her to see himtaken away. She must be reconciled and try and say thy will bedone.Page 3Brother Andy's Daughter Jessie will soon follow them that isgone before her. She is very low.he may be in her everlastinghome before this reaches you. It is a pity. She was a very nicegirl but she is not to good for Heaven. His oldest son, JohnJames has left him and is gone to New Zealand. He has no sonsliving with him and he has one in Derry a Mechanic and his youngson is on the Queen's life guards. Mrs. Guthire is no better. Ithink I told you her daughter is in America. I heard JamesGurthres was out to see you. He could give you all the newsabout us and his young son. Married and is living in the housewith her. Mrs. Aneany was very poorly but she is a little betterand is able to go about again. Brother Andy had a letter fromhis daughter Mrs. Catterson on Commerce and she said she had aletter from Brother Charles and that he sold out his farm andliving in the cityPage 4and he also said he wrote to Brother Andy & me. I never got aletter from him. My Dear Brother read him this letter and tellhim I would like to hear from him and all the friends very oftennow in my old age. It can't be expected I will be long in thisworld. I am wearing up to 80 years. There is very low prior incrops this season. I am sending you a paper. Barbara wishes that(Mollie) Mrs. Ritchie would write to her and send her husband'spicture and her own as she would like to have them. She took thetwo boys pictures to put in her album. They are two fine boys.I hope they will be a blessing to you in your old age. Barbarasays she has them placed oppisite two nice young Ladies cousinsof her own, the Miss Hegarty's. My sons are still nealing. Theygo to Lestland every week. Barbara has enclosed her address %her or son James. Barbara and her husband all for us. We hiskind love to you and all the children.
