About Sarah (Whitlam) Nichol - Welch [Convict "Lady Juliana" 1790]
Sarah WHITLAM was born c1767 or c1770 Lincoln, England
Sarah was convicted of burglary and was sentenced to 7 years transportation. She arrived in Sydney Cove on 3/6/1790 on "Lady Juliana" {Some sources have "Neptune"}
On the journey she had a relationship with John NICOL and they had the following children
- John (born enroute)
(John NICOL wrote a book about his adventures "Life and Adventures 1776-1801"
Sarah married John WELCH on 29/7/1790 on Sydney and they had the following children
- John (Note: this could be her child to John Welch)
- Walter 3/9/1793
In August 1790 she was transferred to Norfolk Island (John WELCH joined her later)
Sarah and John left the colony in June 1796 on "Marquis Cornwallis" (John returned to Sydney in 1801 without her)
