Hy het sy opleiding in Stellenbosch gehad. Sy posadres was Bus 104, Ermelo.

Willem Hendrik Buhrmann, de zoon van de welbekende Hendrik Theodoor Buhrman, werd 5 Augustus 1860 te Lijdenburg geboren vanwaar zijne ouders zich op het Hogeveld, in het Ermelo distrikt, vestigden. Door zijne ouders en door eigen neiging tot de beoefening der theologie gedreven, studeerde hij tot 1888 te Stellenbos, doch moest wegens gezondheidsredenen van het leraarsambt afzien. Tijdens de Jameson inval nam hij deel aan het Ermelo kommando, dat echter niet in het vuur gekomen is. Gedurende de Magato-oorlog liep zijn leven gevaar zowel door het vijandelik lood als door koortsziekte. En bij het uitbreken van de laatste oorlog, behoorde hij onder de eersten die op 11 Oktober de vijandelike bodem betraden. Na als gewoon burger aan al de slagen met zijn kommando te hebben deel genomen en o.a. in Maart 1900 in de Vrijstaat tot bij Brandfort ingetrokken te zijn, behoorde hij omder die Ermelo’ers die met hun kommando een grote bewegelikheid aan de dag legden. Van het lidmaatschap der Paarden Kommissie werd hij op 23 Oktober 1901 door Komm. Genl. Botha verlost, toen deze hem aanstelde als Kommandant van Ermelo in de plaats van J. N. H. Grobler, die tot Vechtgeneraal werd bevorderd. Zeven dagen na zijn benoeming nam hij met zijn burgers deel aan de grote slag bij Bakenlaagte en daarna aan het treffen te Onverwacht, waar Generaal Opperman, alsook zijn getrouwe adjudant Adriaan Buhrmann, voor de Boeren machten verloren gingen. Tot het einde maakte Kommandant Buhrmann de strijd mede en voerde zijne getrouwe burgers ten laatste naar de plaats Twijfelfontein, om met hen daar de wapens neer te leggen.

Willem Hendrik Buhrmann, the son of the well-known Hendrik Theodoor Buhrman, was born 5 August 1860 in Lydenburg from where his parents are on the Highveld, in the Ermelo district, established. Driven by his parents and by his own inclination to practice theology, he studied at Stellenbosh until 1888, but had to renounce the teaching profession for health reasons.
During the Jameson raid he took part in the Ermelo commando, which, however, did not get into the fire.
During the Magato War, his life was in danger both from the enemy and from fever and at the outbreak of the last war, he was among the first to enter the enemy soil on October 11. After having taken part in all the battles with his commando as an ordinary citizen and having moved into the Free State to Brandfort in March 1900, he belonged to those Ermelo’ers who showed great mobility with their commando. He became a member of the Horse Commission on 23 October 1901 by Komm. Genl. Botha redeemed him when he appointed him Commandant of Ermelo in place of J. N. H. Grobler, who was promoted to Fighting General.
Seven days after his appointment he took part with his citizens in the great battle of Bakenlaagte and then in the meeting at Onverwacht, where General Opperman, as well as his loyal adjutant Adriaan Buhrmann, were lost to the Boer powers.
Until the end, Commandant Buhrmann witnessed the battle and led his faithful citizens at the latest to the town of Twijfelfontein, to lay down arms with them there.

I recently bought a hand written diary that was recorded by Charlers Groenewald Robertson, the first settler in Ermelo ( 1880) The diary spans the years from 1910 - 1921 and in it there is an entry recording the death and burial of Willem Hendrik Buhrmann that I thought may interest you.

" Saturday 21 June 1913.......On Wednesday 18th Willem Buhrmann died at 5pm of internal cancer after a lingering illness of about 4 or 5 months; with much suffering aged 51 years. A burial service was held by Rev. Nef ( ?) in the D.R. Church yesterday and largely attended. Mother, Cliff and self attended. Mast ( sic) were hoisted half mast. The corpse was taken out yesterday to his farm Uitkoms and the burial took place today. Gen Botha arrived with special train this morning and was taken to the funeral by motor car."
