Biography
He was in the Revolutionary War as a Sergeant between 5 May 1775 and 26 Oct 1775 in Province of New York.¹ Capt. John McKinatry's Company, Col. Patterson's Regiment for 3 months and 4 days He emigrated from New York in 1801 to Rome Township, Athens County, Ohio, United States.¹ Being brought to Ohio by his son Judge Elijah Hatch, Jr.

Isaac Hatch's affidavit in Joseph Whipple's Revolutionary War Pension papers, p. 737: ... from the time he could remember until after his marriage aforesaid, her parents having resided as neighbors to him and his parents in Hillsdale aforesaid; and her maiden name was Mary Virgil, her father's name being William Virgil; that her father died when the said Mary was a child and her mother married for a second husband Elijah Hatch who was an uncle of affiant; that said Mary Virgil married one John Smith about the year in which the War of Revolution closed, that said John Smith lived only about a year and died leaving said Mary a widow, without any children; that she remarried a widow two or three years or thereabouts, and married said Joseph Whipple at the time and place aforesaid.
Mark Whipple's affidavit in Joseph Whipple's Rev War Pension papers: ... and he states that the native place of the said Mary Whipple was Hillsdale in the county of Columbia and state of New York at a place called Green River; that she was born and resided there; that her fathers name was William Virgil, who died when she was quite small, and her mother married a man by name of Elijah Hatch for her second husband and his mothers name was Mary Virgil...
