The children of Seth and Elizabeth Hackney Hammer were registered at Lost Creek 30 Nov 1839.
In Sep 1846, permission was granted to Elizabeth and her daughters, Hannah and her daughters, Rachel (daughter of Seth and Elizabeth.?) and her daughter, Sarah arid her daughter, and Lucinda, to move to Pleasant Plain IA Monthly Meeting. Note: daughters seem generally to have followed the membership of their mothers, and sons followed the membership of their fathers. Thus these women's husbands and sons presumably made the move at the same time, but that record was not contained in this source.
A. T. Andreas, The Illustrated Historical Atlas of the State of Iowa (1875), p. 478, states that Seth Hammer settled at Hammer's Grove, Jasper Co, in 1845. In 1846, the first county officers were elected and he was chosen Recorder. The same source discloses, p . 531, that Aaron HAMMER was farming in Section 13, Newton Township, Jasper Co, and that he came to Iowa from Jefferson Co TN in 1847. These were quite possibly the sons of Elisha and Rachel Lewis HAMMER.
The History of Jasper Co IA (Chicago, Western Historical Co. 1878), p. 325, confirms that Seth Hammer was elected Recorder in Jasper County's first election, held April 1846.
Elisha Hammer spoke against human slavery. His testimony was not political, but wholly humanitarian, therefore he proclaimed earnestly with all the eloquence that God had given him that 'the oppressed shall go free'. Finally he felt that his ministry in the South was nearing an end, and fearing that some of his posterity through marriage might become identified with slavery, and foreseeing the probable war between the States, concluded to move to the free territory of Iowa. This decision was carried out in 1846. In 1845, he sold his farms and flour mill on the Lost Creek stream, near New Market, Tennessee and gathered his family together to start the long trip to Iowa. Elisha Hammer did not live long after coming to Iowa. He died in 1847 . . .
"The son of the Rev . Elisha Hammer, known as Captain Elisha Hammer, built a brickhouse, southwest of the Center Friends Church, this beautiful brick dwellinghouse stands as a landmark. It was built of brick hauled overland by oxen team from Iowa City, prior to the Civil War. Tradition relates this home was one of the several 'underground stations', in the neighborhood.
--Report of Nita M. Hammer, 10 Sep 1975.

Hammer (probably Mary Elizabeth Hammer) is given a birth state of "O". There are three states that start with O now, but at the time of her birth there was only Ohio. Oregon was 1859 and Oklahoma 1907.

Immediately above the entry for S. Hammer and his family in the 1860 census is an entry for the Gotschall family.
Being listed right next to someone else on the census generally means you live very close to them, because census takers go door-to-door, canvassing neighborhoods.
It seems possible (but not conclusive) that these people are close relatives to Seth's 3rd wife, whom we know to be named Mary Elizabeth Gotschall Musgrove, widow of Allen Musgrove. Seth married her in 1860, the same year as this census.
Name,Sex, Age, Race, Birthplace:

Mary Gotschall Female 47 White, O [so born abt 1813 in Ohio]
John Gotschall Male 12 White, O [so born abt 1848 in Ohio]
Then immediately below that is Seth and family.
